Bloom was created during the transition from winter into spring, in February and March, when the first signs of natural bloom begin to emerge. The work captures that quiet transformation of the season — when colour, freshness, and new growth gradually return to the landscape.
The painting is an intimate still-life composition, exploring flowers through the richness and depth of oil paint. Set against a soft, restrained background, the blooms become the central focus, their delicate forms and vivid colours bringing a sense of freshness and renewal to the composition.
Bloom also marks one of my early explorations into still-life painting, allowing me to engage more closely with the beauty of ordinary natural forms and translate them through an oil-based approach.
At 14 × 14 inches, the work is intentionally intimate in scale. Its compact format makes it particularly suited to a bedroom, study, reading corner, console, or smaller wall where a quiet but expressive artwork can be appreciated up close.
