The Valley draws inspiration from the artist’s reading of the Rigveda and its descriptions of changing climatic conditions, snow, landscape, and human migration. The work reflects upon the idea of communities moving southward from the regions around Mount Meru as the climate grew colder and snow began to transform the landscape.
The painting presents this transformation through a deliberately simplified visual language. The deep blue represents the valley, while the white descending across the composition evokes the arrival of snow. The green upper portion represents the lush vegetation of the landscape before it is gradually covered and altered by the changing climate.
Rather than serving as a literal illustration of a historical or textual account, The Valley translates the idea into an abstract visual narrative. The contrasting fields of green, blue, and white suggest a landscape caught in the process of transformation, where nature and climate become forces that shape human movement.
At its heart, the work reflects on the relationship between landscape, climate, and migration—and on how changes in the natural environment can fundamentally alter the way human beings inhabit and experience a place.
At 120 × 120 cm, The Valley is a balanced square composition whose restrained forms allow the conceptual narrative to remain open to interpretation.
