Ramgarh is inspired by Ramgarh Lodge, Jaipur, a historic royal hunting lodge associated with the Maharaja of Jaipur. The property, dating to the early 20th century, retains the atmosphere of its royal past, with hunting trophies, antiques, and other elements of its heritage.
Rather than documenting the architecture as it exists, this painting reflects my personal experience of the space. Although the original walls are white, I perceived the interior through a soft spectrum of pink — a colour that, to me, embodied warmth, nostalgia, and the lingering echoes of its royal history.
The mounted stag, antique light fixture, and quiet symmetry of the room create a sense of timelessness. Against the restrained composition, the monochromatic pink palette transforms the interior from a physical space into something more psychological — a place shaped by memory, emotion, and perception.
Through Ramgarh, I explore the idea that places are not merely seen; they are felt. The painting therefore moves away from architectural representation and towards an interpretation of how a space can live within our memory. Colour becomes an emotional language, allowing the familiar to be reimagined beyond its physical form.
At 24 × 24 inches, Ramgarh is an intimate yet striking original artwork, suited to a living room, study, bedroom, or a thoughtfully curated contemporary interior.
