Meet Dr.Arushi Rana
Dr. Arushi Rana is a contemporary Indian artist, researcher, and former professor whose artistic practice has evolved from nearly a decade of academic work in geography, environment, landscape, and human experience.
For almost nine years, she served as an Assistant Professor in the School of Earth Sciences, teaching and conducting interdisciplinary research at the intersection of environment, spatial analysis, and society. A Gold Medalist in Geography, she has contributed to 25+ research publications and supervised three PhD scholars, bringing together geographical inquiry, scientific research, and a deep interest in the relationship between people and place.
Her journey into art emerged gradually through a profound spiritual and inward transformation. What began as an academic study of external landscapes increasingly became an exploration of memory, consciousness, emotion, belonging, and the landscapes carried within us. For Arushi, painting became a natural extension of this way of seeing.
Working primarily with oil, acrylic, and mixed media, her paintings draw inspiration from landscapes, Himalayan and Northeast Indian homes, folklore, nature, cultural memory, and contemplative experiences. Her work moves between representation and abstraction, often transforming familiar places into deeply personal and evocative spaces.
Her work has been exhibited in India and internationally, including exhibitions in Jaipur and international art engagements, and continues to evolve through her exploration of the relationship between geography, spirituality, memory, and artistic expression.
Today, her practice brings together two seemingly different worlds—the precision of a researcher and the intuition of an artist—creating works that invite the viewer not merely to look at a place, but to experience what it holds.
The Artist
Through painting, Dr.Rana continues to explore the spaces between the seen and the felt — where colour, memory, landscape, and imagination come together.
